Biography: The Reverend W. Wayne Lindsey
Rev. W. Wayne Lindsey is a native of North Carolina and comes to Nevada via Dallas, Texas. From birth through early adulthood, his religious and spiritual heritage was United Methodist. He served various leadership roles in his home church and also in The Raleigh Wesley Foundation (the university student ministry of the UMC at NCSU).
It was during college, that he began to struggle with the reconciliation of his spirituality and his sexuality. He had always felt close to God and yet he also knew that he was attracted to other men. Through this time of soul searching, he came to the realization that God's love and God's grace was inclusive. He discovered that being Gay and being a Christian were not incompatible. God created us in the fullness of our sexuality and, of course, God loves us and cares for us. Our sexuality is a gift from God and is not something to be denied or disconnected from who we are as spiritual beings.
In 1978, he began attending St. John's Metropolitan Community Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. He became active in this emerging congregation and participated in its leadership for many years before attending Seminary. In 1989, St. John's MCC called him to be their Pastor. Under Rev. Lindsey's leadership the church experienced dramatic growth and purchased its first ministry complex in the heart of the city in 1994.
In 2000, Rev. Lindsey moved to Dallas Texas and joined the staff of the world's largest Gay and Lesbian church (with over 3,000 members) as the Pastor of Worship and Evangelism. He was responsible for creating inspiring worship through an extensive music program and also for finding new and creative new ways to promote the message of God's inclusive love in the Metroplex and internationally on the web.
In November of 2005, Rev. Lindsey accepted the call to become the Senior Pastor of MCCLV because he is excited about the potential that this church has to be a witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the fastest growing city in America. People are being drawn to this place in the desert from all over the world and they need to hear The Good News proclaimed and to know that God is active in their lives.
